Congratulations to the U14 team who won the Thurrock Tournament today in what (I am reliably told by Rowan!) was an amazing final.
The U14s won all their games to go through to the final top of the league. They faced Robins a team they had beaten 8-5 earlier in the day.
With a half time score of 7-3 to the Robins the U14 team faced an uphill battle. In the second half Robins managed to pull even further ahead and at one point Lincoln were losing by 5 goals to 10. With time running out and a determination not to go home empty handed the U14s the pulled off their best come back ever - scoring 6 goals in quick succession with only seconds to spare before the final whistle!
Well done to everyone !

Report by Jan Dann

Pontins 2002 turned out to be even more fun than last year! We were determined to try and beat last years position when we came third but we knew that to do that would be hard work. Even more so when we opened the tournament draw and found ourselves in the same group as Parkside and Oldham!

All credit to the U13 team who played each game like it was the final - warming up and going on court totally focused and determined to win. The team won 7 out of their first 8 games - losing to by only one goal in the third game to a sharp Parkside team.

The final match of the day was a fast and furious game against Oldham. To beat Oldham, the current national champions, the team knew they would have to be at their best and they certainly rose to the challenge. By half time the score was 2-2 and they knew a mistake by either team would cost that side the match. All credit to the U13 team who kept their cool under constant pressure and finished the game with a 5-4 victory.

The win over Oldham meant we finished the group on equal points as Parkside who narrowly beat us to top position by means of a better goal difference. It also meant we finished the day on high and came into the Sunday games feeling very confident. That feeling grew with each game we played and the team seemed to get better and better as the day went on..

Four convincing wins in Sunday morning group gave us a semi final match against Turnford. The U13s used the 15 minute delay waiting for the match to start to their advantage, by putting on a display of warm up routines - much to the amusement of the Turnford girls who simply sat and watched! By the time the game started it was evident which girls were prepared and by half time Lincoln were 4-1 up. A brave fight back in the second half by Turnford just wasn't enough and as the final hooter went it was 4-3 to Lincoln.

The final against Parkside A was a closely fought match. It was neck and neck all the way with Lincoln leading 5-4 at half time. The second half felt like it lasted at least 30 minutes but some excellent defending meant Parkside only scored one more goal and Lincoln ended the game 7-5 winners.

Congratulations to all the U13 squad who went to Pontins - Elaine, Abby, Becca, Sally Ann, Laura, Harriet, Alex, Helena, Jenny & Lucy. You all played brilliantly and were a credit to the club.

To beat just one team from Oldham, Turnford or Parkside is hard enough but to beat all three of them in the same tournament was an AMAZING achievement. The team thoroughly deserved their tournament victory.

Thanks to Joy for all the food and Ann and Rowan for all their help. And of course a BIG THANKYOU to Pam who has worked so hard to get the team to this position. We just wished you could've been there to see it. Maybe next year?
Goooooo Lincoln!!!!!

All tournaments should be like this one - hot weather, spacious courts, plenty of gspcae to warm up on and, above all, VICTORY for Lincoln City.

Congratulations to the U13s who had a wonderful day.
Their best tournament win to date.

After a slight hiccup in our second game against Essex Open B the team went from strength to strength. The group stage was very close and we went into our last 2 games, against Chelmsford and Manor, knowing we needed two wins to be sure of a place in the semis.

The team played brilliantly - scoring 13 goals against Chelmsford (who at that point were top of the group and unbeaten all day) and 12 against Manor (who at that point were 2nd in the group). Abby and Elaine showed just what they were capable of by scoring 12 goals out of 13 attempts against Manor. Added to that the defence made sure we weren't going to be denied a place in the semis by only letting in 3 goals over both games.

A nail biting semi against Bear Babies A gave us a 6-5 win in what was a very close game. By this time the girls were on such a high  that nothing was going to stop them taking home that trophy - not even a final match against Turnford ( a team no team from Lincoln has ever beaten despite many attempts!).

The first half was another nail biting affair and as the half time whistle went we were leading 3-2. However within minutes of the second half starting we were 6-2 up and despite Turnford pulling one goal back we came away with a 6-3 win!!

Thanks to all the noisy U10, U11 & U12 supporters cheering the team on from the sidelines and especially to Sarah and Julie who kept the cheerleading going!

The U13s also won the trophy for 'Best Attack' of the tournament in the U12 & U13 section by scoring more goals than anyone else. Our total of 55 in the group stage was 8 goals ahead of Turnford, the second place team.

A big congratulations to the team: Abby Johnson, Elaine Booth, Becca Dann, Laura Park, Alex Fairhurst, Jenny Gilleberg, Lucy Heathershaw & Helena Grady. And of course a big thankyou to Pam who made it all possible!
